Apple picking

We go apple picking every year as a family, usually several times. Nothing beats a fresh apple off the tree. This is from our first trip of the year. Emily enjoyed picking and eating her first apple straight off the tree. We stopped by and got some doughnuts and cider afterwards.

The Thompson's go to the zoo!*

*No animals were hurt during production!

We enjoyed a much needed family bonding trip to the zoo this Monday. James the man took the day off and we headed out bright and early. After a quick lunch/breakfast at Cracker Barrel, we do love that place, we arrived at the Binder Park zoo ready to see some animals!
This was Emily's first trip to the zoo and she loved it! She said hi to all the animals and learned what was what. She really got into the prairie dogs which were my favorites too. Those cute little things were putting on a show, waving at everyone, running up to the wall and looking up at people, kissing each other, digging holes and pressing down the dirt around the mouths of the holes with their little heads, too cute!!! There were also a lot of peacock's running around. The kids went on a train ride with daddy and I took a bunch of pictures of one really pretty peacock, he got sick of me or perhaps he wanted to date me so he started running down the path after me. I stopped taking pictures of the peacocks after that, hey I wasn't using a flash!! I think everyone enjoyed seeing all the different kinds of animals and trying to figure out what sounds they might make. I have no clue what sounds a Emu makes, but I do know they poop a lot! At the end of the day we stopped by the petting zoo which Emily loved. All the kids fed the goats, even brave Miss Emily. They had adorable little pygmy goats and I'm pretty sure Emily would have taken one home if she could, she ran after all of them saying "nice goat" and petting them all. We all had a fun time together, it was so nice to spend time as a family before school starts up again. I was planning on posting some zoo pictures but blogger is being a nerd so I'll try again tomorrow!
